On June 24, the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 case that established the right to abortion, protected under the 14th amendment of the Constitution. The Court’s 5-4 decision, which reverses nearly 50 years of precedent, provides each state the power to determine, set, and enforce its own abortion laws. At present, nearly half of the nation’s 50 states are expected to outlaw or severely restrict abortion. The implications will be dangerous and wide-reaching.

The June 24 move was preceded by a leak of a draft majority opinion indicating that the Supreme Court intended to overturn Roe v. Wade. The leaked document was obtained and published by Politico on May 2.

Protests have erupted across the nation and donations have poured in to abortion funds since the news of the Supreme Court’s decision was released on Friday morning, reports The New York Times. The vote, which reinforces economic, social, and political inequities while presenting the risk for higher rates of maternal morality and self-harm, has been met with outcry from the American public at large. Duly an injustice and a violation of women’s rights, the decision has magnified feelings of fear and grief in American women and in those who stand for reproductive freedom and rights. Emotions are running high as this crisis folds, so Dancing Astronaut has collected early reactions to the Court’s overturning of the right to abortion and compiled a list of mental health and abortion resources for our readers.

My mom called me sobbing in disbelief that she had more rights growing up then her own daughters

— ɴᴜʀᴋᴏ💧 (@NurkoMusic) June 24, 2022

my body

my choice

— ALISON WONDERLONER (@awonderland) June 24, 2022

I know I’m a Dj and politics is not my place to speak on / not why a lot of y’all follow me

BUT

A woman’s right to chose what she does with her own body should not be a fucking political issue and it makes my head spin we still have to deal with this bullshit in America

— LUCA LUSH (@LUCALUSH) June 24, 2022

MY BODY MY CHOICE ✊🏾

— JERSEY CLUB QUEEN (@UNIIQU3) June 24, 2022

How about we get all the children in foster care on the steps of the Supreme Court, and then asking them what they plan on doing with all the kids that still need homes?

— Chandler Leighton (@chanleighton) June 24, 2022

USA so cringe today. Embarrassing

— Mija (@hi_mija) June 24, 2022

— Mija (@hi_mija) June 24, 2022

— ROSSY (@rossykate) June 24, 2022

I feel like im taking crazy pills. What logical explanation can you make rationalizing what happened today. 150yr old dudes using a 300yr old document as a shield is just insanity to me. Give people their basic rights back ffs

— ❄️WOOLI🔥 (@woolimusic) June 24, 2022

America just being more and more backwards i am fucking speechless. Im just out of words. Fuck this supreme court and anyone allowing this to have happen.

— habby (@habstrakt) June 24, 2022

Disgusted at this ruling. The danger it’s going to put so many women in, the fact that there was literally no need to overturn it. Fucking ridiculous

— Louis The Child (@LouisTheChild) June 24, 2022

Disturbing times . What the actual fuck

— isabelle (@sunglasssister) June 24, 2022

What gives anyone the right to tell women what to do with their bodies?

— William Black (@itswilliamblack) June 24, 2022

It goes without saying that women should have the freedom to do what they want with their bodies and supreme court decided today by overturning roe v wade that shouldn’t be the case. For a country that prides itself on freedom, this is backwards.

— Brownies & Lemonade🍫🍋 (@TeamBandL) June 24, 2022

Its hard to understand the massive amount of fear and dread that every woman feels today. The grief of losing a constitutional right. The fear that this is just the beginning. The terror that my body is not mine to protect or control.

— Runn (@_watchmerunn) June 24, 2022

Bunch of old men controlling women’s bodies. Don’t tell me it’s something else. This isn’t about life or babies. This is about ownership, control and power. It’s a very sad day for human rights. 💔

— Black Tiger Sex Machine (@OfficialBTSM) June 24, 2022

I’m honestly so speechless about what is happening. So much hard work and progress in this country being tossed away to the detriment of millions of women and their right to choose how they control their bodies.

Idk what else to say other than this is absolutely beyond fucked.
