Viewers were left laughing after Matt Lucas pranked Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas with a fake guest appearance on Line of Duty.
The comedian appeared on The One Show last night (1 April) and could not resist poking fun at the show’s hosts and viewers in the spirit of April Fool’s Day.
Lucas told Jones: “It’s amazing how they kept it a secret, but I appear in two episodes of Line of Duty in this series. I play a special police man.”
Revealing that he had not yet seen footage of his scenes, the hosts “surprised” Lucas and viewers at home with a first-look clip at his appearance on the hit police drama.
In the brief video, Superintendent Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) is seen at AC-12 headquarters interrogating a potentially corrupt policeman who turns out to be played by Lucas.
Asked to confess to his crimes, Lucas’s character responds: “Well I’ve got a question for you, which is, what on earth is going on in this show? I watched it last week and I couldn’t follow it.”
Picking up his policeman’s helmet, Lucas says: “Also I’m not wearing this. This looks very cheap”, before walking out.
Jones and Jenas were left baffled after the pair realised they had been pranked by their guest star.
Line of Duty airs on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
