AJ Wander’s new single ‘Time Out’ is out now, so we took the chance to ask him what his answers to these sins would be…
LUST: Who or what do you find yourself lusting after currently, and why?
To perform live! Before lockdown hit I was performing pretty much every night at piano bars around the UK and I miss it a crazy amount. I was performing other people’s songs then to earn a living, but once these crappy pandemic times have passed and live music can return I will performing my own material for the first time. It’s something I’ve been waiting to do for so long now so to have to wait is pretty painful but I know the wait will be worth it. To see people faces react to songs I’ve written as I sing them is a moment I’ve been craving for a long time now. Roll on 2021.
GREED: What should you be cutting down on, and why?
Time on my phone. A cliché, but I think I miss so much life looking at that little screen. They’re wonderful contraptions and I couldn’t imagine life without one, but they definitely distract me from living far too often.
GLUTTONY: What one thing could you happily consume limitless amounts of, and why?
The US Office. Because Michael Scott is life.
SLOTH: Stop being so lazy! What is the thing you should be putting more effort in to at the moment, and why?
I want to help others a little more. Being a music artist, I end up spending most waking moments singing/talking about myself or working to further my career. It’s so easy to forget to step back from that and give some time to the people around me that need it.
WRATH: Who or what grinds your gears, and why?
There isn’t an awful lot that grinds my gears to be honest… I try to not give the things or people that get on my nerves much time in my head as if I did focus on them I’d forever be angry. Although I would say changing bedsheets is the bane of life. Before you panic, I do change them, but it’s just the worst task isn’t it? Getting the last corner of the elasticated bottom sheet over the mattress without another one popping off – that mundane moment GRINDS MY GEARS.
ENVY: Who are you jealous of, and why?
I wouldn’t say I’m a particularly jealous kinda guy. However, I am ever so slightly jealous of all my friends over in Australia right now as I’m needing a little more light and heat in my life. The dark winter months here in London can definitely get you down.
PRIDE: Answers on a boast card! What is your proudest achievement?
I’d have to say my proudest achievement is having written some of the songs I’ve written. They’re my musical children and like any parent, I am proud.
