Benedict Sinister’s new single is out now – we asked him what his answers to these sins would be…
LUST: Who or what do you find yourself lusting after currently, and why?
Margaret Qualley and Shia LaBeouf in the video for the haunting “Love Me Like You Hate Me” by Rainsford (Margaret’s sister). Because it echoes the late, great Pina Bausch and Benjamin Biolay’s video for “La Superbe.”
GREED: What should you be cutting down on, and why?
Tom Ford velvet tuxedos and Leboutin Black Suede Spikes Dandelion Loafers, as the only places I go these days are the park and the bodega.
GLUTTONY: What one thing could you happily consume limitless amounts of, and why?
Bullshots – a drink combining vodka with Campbell’s Beef Bouillon and Worcestershire sauce, with squeezes of lemon and tabasco to taste. Because I’m totally keto even when I’m getting my drink on!
SLOTH: Stop being so lazy! What is the thing you should be putting more effort in to at the moment, and why?
Posting on social media. Because if you don’t maintain your online performative identity, you lose connection with your fans. “Online performative identity” is a term used by theorists to say we are what post. “Fans” is the word we independent musicians use for our relatives, significant others and publicists.
WRATH: Who or what grinds your gears, and why?
I’m actually a very Zen person, so I guess my answer to that question has to be “three ponds of flax.”
ENVY: Who are you jealous of, and why?
I would be envious of Kim West’s 40th in Tahiti, except happily I’ve got a Thanksgiving bikini waxing and Brandy Alexanders vacay coming up in Zanziber with my bffs Amber Heard and Ellen DeGeneres. When those two get together it makes the golf course banter between Donald Trump and Bill Clinton seem tame.
PRIDE: Answers on a boast card! What is your proudest achievement?
As artists our proudest moments are when we influence future generations. Whenever I see a young person picking out “Yummy” on an accordion or trying go rap like Submarine Man – rather than say trying to cure cancer or reverse climate change – it reminds me just how important our work is and how well-deserved our lavish lifestyles are.
