A GoFundMe page to support the family of Broadway star Nick Cordero – who died over the weekend due to COVID-19 complications – has raised more than $900,000 (£721,400).

The fundraiser for Cordero, who died aged 41 on Sunday in Los Angeles, California, has over 17,300 donors and has raised upwards of $930,440 (£745,777) at the time of writing.

The campaign was launched on 18 April to help support Cordero, his wife Amanda Kloots and their one-year-old son Elvis, after the Broadway singer contracted coronavirus in March.

“We are heartbroken to update this account to a memorial,” the GoFundMe page now reads. In an Instagram post yesterday, Kloots wrote: “God has another angel in heaven now. My darling husband passed away this morning. He was surrounded in love by his family, singing and praying as he gently left this earth.”

Before his death, Cordero spent over 90 days at Cedar-Sinai hospital fighting the virus and suffered multiple complications. The actor underwent a leg amputation, received a temporary pacemaker and entered a medically-induced coma.

Since Cordero’s death, friends including Zach Braff, Florence Pugh and Lin-Manuel Miranda have taken to social media to post moving tributes to the actor.

Cordero’s Broadway credits include Waitress, Rock of Ages, and the stage adaptation of Woody Allen’s 1994 film, Bullets Over Broadway. His performance as Cheech in the latter earned Cordero a Tony Award nomination in 2014. The actor also appeared in several episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Blue Bloods.
