“Nighttime Creatures”

Way back in those tranquil, heady days of 2018, we shared Blood On The Tracks (no, not that one), the brilliant long-player from New Orleans duo Lawn. A couple of years on from that, in this strange new world, the pair return this summer with a brand new album called, somewhat more simply, Johnny.

Released via a combination of NOLA’s Community Records and the excellent Muscle Beach label, the album arrives this September – and we’re really pleased to share the first track from it here today in the form of the suitably compelling “Nighttime Creatures“.

“Nighttime Creatures is about wanting to be at the party but also hating it: my own natural inclination to be extroverted and the overwhelming anxiety of being in a crowd. I wrote the words to this song while watching a group of slightly aged out frat guys yell at each other from my second-story window.” (Mac Folger)

Equal parts harmonious and sludgy, like glimpses of sunshine on a thundery day, the new track is a straight-up and timely reminder of what made their debut such an enjoyable ride. Beginning with a lovely lilting guitar, the track is brilliantly grey, a little subdued underpinned by an energy that breaks-out for a midpoint flurry of energy where the whole thing threatens to combust.

It’s perhaps the effortlessness here that is most impressive, however, a kind of unfurling that hints at bigger and bolder things to come. Check out “Nighttime Creatures” right here, and follow the links below to pre-order a couple of vinyl varieties and a new T-shirt.
