The shoegaze-y, dream-pop LA-based artist has shared “Healing,” her fourth single off her forthcoming third LP, Endless Space (Between You & I). The track is a fairytale endeavour brimming delicate melodies and twinkling pop cadences.
The tender track effortlessly glides along with its amorphous arrangements and ethereal vocals, with Winter capturing listeners with her hypnotic, hazy soundscape that leaves us lost in reverie.
Thematically, “Healing” tackles the discontentment and rejection associated with being ghosted by a romantic interest. Like her recent singles have shown, Winter posses a penchant for nostalgic psych-tinged dream-pop, enthralling rhythms, and lyrical imagery. She expands beyond pop’s internal limits and embraces unconventional sonic routes to create her own esoteric universe for listeners to deeply examine and explore.
In her own words, Winter says this of her new single, “I wrote ‘Healing’ about being ghosted by a crush. I had a few friends that had told me their story and it just felt like such a common thing these days. It’s not cool how that people can be treated in such a disposable way. I started writing the tune on my phone via an Android app and those sounds ended up staying in the final version. I really like how the video depicts a girl finding her way back to her own planet because I think that’s the best way we can heal is by being true to our own essence.”
The song’s accompanying visuals, directed by Graham Epstein, finds the protagonist escaping by leaving Earth. The sci-fi inspired video was made on a zero budget during quarantine.
