Having teased such a thing earlier this year with a couple of beautiful singles, Toronto’s Hannah Georgas today shares another brand new song alongside the news that her debut full-length will be released this coming September.

Presciently titled ‘All That Emotion’, the album will be released by two much-loved labels: Brassland (The National, Anais Mitchell) and Kevin Drew’s Arts & Crafts (Feist, Andy Shauf). “I have been thinking about what this album represents to me and it is resilience,” Hannah says of her forthcoming album. “It’s about finding hope and a way out the other side of tough situations. The hardships we go through make us grow into stronger people. The album is about healing, self-reflection and getting up again at the end of the day.”

If those were already big shoes to fill, the release gains even greater weight given the involvement of The National’s Aaron Dessner who adds ‘All That Emotion’ to his growing list of Producer-credits, which already includes the likes of Sharon Van Etten, Frightened Rabbit, and, earlier this year, Eve Owen.

Perhaps the highest accolade that can be bestowed up Georgas at this point is how all of that surrounding information disappears from the very first ripples of her new single.

Revealed via a suitably compelling new video, which you can watch below from today, “Dreams” is subtle and beautiful, the gentle introduction of her voice set against the barely-there production stoking an immediate atmosphere, a fogginess that threatens to dissipate and set the music free. That it never quite gets there, that it always seems to be holding something back, keeping a piece of the puzzle for itself, makes it all the more compelling.

“I only thought I could find you in dreams I’ve had,” she repeats throughout, the weight of that sentiment not just heard but felt, a kind of weight that the rest of the song can never quite get past, even though it continually strives to. As Hannah explains:

“In my past, I have let my insecurities play into relationships and have pushed people away because I have felt like I’m not deserving of love. This song explores the idea of breaking down those barriers of insecurity and being more open.”

An elusive but captivating introduction, “Dreams” hints at something very special in the distance, a debut album full of melancholy, set to arrive just as the seasons change. Check it out below right now.
